Even if you feel uncertain about pursuing a personal injury claim, we encourage you to act now. Time is critical in personal injury cases, as the lingering effects of an injury may not show until well after it has occurred. The longer you wait, the more difficult it may be to gather critical information about your potential case. When you are faced with a catastrophe, it’s important to seek medical advice and the help of an experienced legal professional to help you understand your options.

About The Smith Law Center

Founded with the simple philosophy of helping the injured.

The Smith Law Center is a leader in the field and is currently the largest personal injury firm on the peninsula and one of the largest in Virginia. We are internationally recognized for our knowledge of the laws surrounding personal injury, especially with regard to traumatic brain injuries.

Our firm focuses on the express purpose of providing quality legal representation to negligence victims. We are highly sensitive to the life-changing nature of certain injuries, and provide each client with the support, guidance, and empathy needed to bring them through such a difficult time.

Due to our extensive experience and unique academic background, we can handle more complex accident cases that involve complicated injuries. Our team is here to help!

What Should I Bring to My Initial Consultation?

Your free initial consultation allows you to decide whether we’ll be the right fit for you and your family, and helps us to learn more about your case. The more information and documentation you can bring to this first meeting, the easier it will be for us to assess your legal rights and options.

We understand that you are likely going through a challenging time, especially after an injury, and it might not always be possible to gather every piece of information. However, it is always helpful if you can bring the following to your initial consultation:

  • Hospital bills and medical records
  • Police or accident reports
  • Witness statements or quotes
  • Pay stubs (if lost wages are an issue)
  • Photos or video of the accident scene and the injury
  • A brief written account of the incident

We want to reassure you that it’s perfectly fine if you can’t locate every single item. It’s our job to prepare evidence for trial. When the time comes, there will be a “discovery” period where our team gathers and organizes the materials for litigation.

What Questions Should I Prepare for My Consultation?

A main aim of the free initial consultation is for you to get a “feel” of how a particular personal injury attorney might fit your specific needs and preferences.

Feel free to ask questions such as:

  • When can I contact you about my case?
  • What’s the preferred method of communication?
  • Do you have relevant experience with cases like mine?
  • What’s your track record for handling these types of legal issues?
  • What are your professional credentials and academic background?

Remember—all questions are welcome during the initial consultation. The more detailed questions you can ask, the more informed your decision will be.

On our end, we take the time and effort to ensure you understand the legal process. We empower you to make your own decisions and be as involved with your case as you desire. If you have any concerns or questions, you can contact our office at (757) 244-7000.
